Seeding Youth Cycling
Grant: Discontinued
Historic Recipients: 16
Active: 2015-2024
Canada produces some exceptional young riders, yet, there is no systematic, national development pathway to get large numbers of kids involved in the cycling. In response, BTG created a youth cycling grant program to seed and develop youth cycling clubs, events or programs across Canada. This program ran from 2015 – 2024.
BTG Youth Cycling grants were for Canadian youth endurance cycling programs dedicated to growing the sport of bike racing. Clubs, programs or events receiving this grant grew to be financially self-sustaining and followed the principles of Cycling Canada’s Long-term Athlete Development plan. BTG emphasized developing multi-discipline endurance bike racers.
Clubs used the grants to hire coaches and develop coaches. Grants “Bridged the Gap” to a sustainable clubs serving kids who became and continue to become Canada’s best juniors, subsequently U23s and some are now even pro bike racers. BTG is really proud of the work of this program while the needs of the sport created more pressing needs in other areas.
