Bridge the Gap Fund Welcomes Sara Poidevin as Mentor Program Lead
Sara has a unique connection to Bridge the Gap (BTG), having been involved in the program as a supported athlete, mentee, and mentor. Her journey gives her first-hand insight into the role mentorship plays in supporting developing riders. A respected Canadian professional cyclist, Sara has represented Canada internationally and raced for leading professional teams, including EF Education–Cannondale.
In her new role, Sara will lead the BTG mentorship program, connecting emerging Canadian cyclists with experienced current and former professionals. The program is designed to help riders navigate the challenges of progressing toward the elite level, both on and off the bike.
“Support from Bridge the Gap played an important role in my own development as an athlete,” said Poidevin. “I’m excited to give back and support the next generation of Canadian riders as they pursue their goals.”
“Sara’s passion and experience make her the perfect leader for our mentorship program,” said Leah Kirchmann, Managing Director of Global Relay Bridge the Gap Fund. “She understands the challenges athletes face because she’s lived them, and her leadership and commitment to supporting others will make a meaningful impact on the next generation of Canadian cyclists.”
Sara succeeds Karol-Ann Canuel as mentoring lead. BTG is grateful for the four years Karol-Ann committed to mentoring, among other valuable initiatives she led. BTG is a stronger, and better today as a result of Karol-Ann’s work. BTG continues to work with, and support Karol-Ann as the President of the Tour de Gatineau women’s UCI event.
Global Relay Bridge the Gap Fund supports emerging Canadian cyclists through financial assistance, mentorship, and other initiatives aimed at helping close the gap to the professional ranks.
